Internal Investigations

Conducting investigations is at the core of the Firm’s practice. We are regularly retained by corporations, universities and private schools, hospitals, private equity firms, and other private and non-profit entities to conduct internal investigations. Our experienced team has handled investigations for the United Nations, Fortune 500 financial institutions, defense contractors, utility companies and manufacturers, and other entities in high-stakes environments and industries.

We deliver independent, thorough, and credible results with efficiency and expertise. From maximizing witness cooperation, navigating delicate issues with sensitivity, to careful and strategic review of key documents, our internal investigations team understands how to generate the necessary chronology and context for getting to the heart of a problem and revealing its truth. We also pride ourselves on offering creative and conscientious solutions that minimize the distracting effects of investigations on an organization’s ordinary course of business.

When warranted, our investigative role includes report writing and presentations to management teams and boards of directors. We build on our longstanding relationships with law enforcement officials as well as forensic and crisis management experts to recommend appropriate remedial outcomes. The Firm’s experience with various government voluntary self-disclosure policies, including the DOJ Criminal Division Corporate Enforcement Policy and the HHS OIG Grant Self-Disclosure Program, also enables us to advise clients on when and whether to engage in voluntary self-reporting.

Some of our recent investigations have involved:

  • Controlled substance diversion by healthcare employees
  • Bribery and potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
  • Construction and manufacturing fatalities and accidents
  • Cybersecurity issues, including ransomware, data breaches, and unlawful computer access
  • Employee fraud, embezzlement, and conflicts of interest
  • Fraudulent billing, coding, and False Claims Act issues
  • Sexual assault and harassment allegations, including under Title IX
