Spears Manning & Martini has a substantial appellate practice representing individual and institutional clients in civil and criminal appeals in state and federal courts, including cases involving complex constitutional issues and matters of first impression. Collectively, the partners and associates at Spears Manning & Martini have briefed and argued over 100 appeals before the United States Courts of Appeal for the First and Second Circuits, the Connecticut Supreme Court, and the Connecticut and New York Appellate Courts.
We are active members of the Criminal Justice Act Panel in the Second Circuit and regularly represent clients before the Second Circuit in both white collar and other federal criminal matters. Several of our partners are also admitted in the Supreme Court of the United States and have engaged in motion practice in that Court.
Our partners draw on their prior experiences handling appeals on behalf of the Federal and State government, including Attorney Manning who served as the Appellate Supervisor for the United States Attorney’s Office in Connecticut, and Attorney Buchok who served in the Appellate Bureau at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. Attorneys Spears and Martini also briefed and argued numerous appeals as Assistant United States Attorneys.
